Blue Toby's sustainability mission
As a sustainable pet bed company, Blue Toby seeks to reduce our carbon footprint. One way to do this is to source contractors and suppliers from the local region. This helps to reduce transportation for raw materials and finished products - decreasing overall emissions. An important selection was for the manufacturing of the Blue Toby Sustainable Pet Bed System.
After a long search for a custom sewing manufacturer, I was drawn to a company called Mollie's Originals because it was named for a beloved rescue dog, and is certified as a small, woman-owned, minority-owned company. Mollie's Originals is located in Virginia - just across the North Carolina border. After speaking to Sharon, the owner, Blue Toby selected Mollie's Originals to manufacture our pet beds, bolsters, and other sewn items. A major benefit is that they are happy to assist start-up organizations with the R&D process.
Meet the people sewing Blue Toby Pet Beds
Jennifer and Charlotte of Mollie's Originals are manufacturing the Blue Toby Sustainable Pet Beds. They are both accomplished sewists with many years of experience working on all types of projects. Earlier this year, they sewed the protypes of Blue Toby products, including the mattress covers, outer reversible covers, and bolsters. Over time, we have tested a number of fabric options and tweaked the designs to ensure that everything functions properly. For example, the bolsters of the Blue Toby Sustainable Pet Bed System are unique in their design. The type of fabric made a great difference in how the bolsters worked. We selected recycled fabric with the right thickness, stretchiness, and weight. You would never guess that the creation of a sewn product could be so complicated!
Working together to develop exceptional products
A major benefit of working with a local company is that I can easily drive up to meet with Jennifer and Charlotte in person. I have been intimately involved with each step of the manufacturing process. And I have greatly enjoyed my relationship with the wonderful people at Mollie's Originals. The last time I was there, we even had a visitor named Oreo checking out the small bed with bolster!
With the help of the staff at Mollie's Originals, we are in production on our major Pet Bed System components. I couldn't be happier with my selection for Blue Toby manufacturing.

For instance, we will be unveiling the new pet blankets soon. I know you and your pet will love them. We have printed the blankets with amazing, vibrant colors on "oh-so-soft" fluffy fabric.
